Oklahoma maintains Coaches lead by 1 point (incredible), but UT jumps UF in Coaches!

OK, this is a very interesting change of events that I'm crunching the numbers on right now. While OU maintained the #2 Coaches lead over now #3 UT, UT's jumping of UF from the #4 Coaches to the #3 Coaches spot is important.

IF and ONLY IF, Texas can jump OU in the Harris poll, they MIGHT hold off OU.

OU will *most likely* be jumping Texas in the computers, but by how much? We don't know. If that jump isn't too large in the computers AND OU and Texas split the Coaches and Harris polls, this could be insanely close.

Texas's ONLY hope at this point is the Harris poll otherwise they're done, that much we DO know right now, but what we also now know is this:

OU = #2 Coaches (last week #2)
UT = #3 Coaches (last week #4) - GAIN IN BCS POINTS HERE

This is a NET improvement for UT over OU where UT theoretically increases their overall BCS lead over OU from last week.

OU = #3 Harris last week
UT = #4 Harris last week

This week Harris? TBD

If UT can somehow overtake OU in the Harris (which was very close last week), then they have a chance because they will have now increased their overall BCS lead over OU from last week by moving up in BOTH human polls.

Even if OU takes the lead in the computers, it will need to be by a margin as large or even larger than what UT's lead was over OU in the computers last week (0.060) in order for OU to take the overall BCS lead.

Stay tuned, we should know the Harris soon and if Texas can somehow take the lead there, watch out...

Cincinnati and TCU also climbed in the Coach's poll, to 11 and 12, a few spots higher for both teams. This will help OU when the computers factor in the Strength of Schedule. Also considering the fact that OU'S SOS improved by playing at OSU while Texas' SOS will slip by playing A&M at home, I like OU's chances here regardless of the Harris poll. OU leads Texas by just one point in the Coach's poll by the way, as the 2 first place votes really helped them.

Good point about Cincy and TCU rising as well, but no one is arguing that OU won't be climbing in the computers as a result of their own SOS increasing after playing Okie Lite and (as you've pointed out) OU's earlier opponents' (Cincy and TCU) SOS's also increasing. We know this part already, what hangs in the balance now is the Harris.

Right, I mentioned in the title that OU's lead in the Coaches is a mere 1 point which is absolutely incredible. The 2 first place votes for OU vs. 0 first place votes for Texas may be the difference to this whole thing.

That begs this question... HOW IN THE HELL DOES OU HAVE 2 FIRST PLACE VOTES AND UF HAVE 1 FIRST PLACE VOTE?... All 3 of those coaches who voted that way need to be seriously questioned by all true, non-partisan CFB fans!

Alabama should have EVERY SINGLE COACHES FIRST PLACE VOTE. Period, end of discussion.

It's a given OU will be ahead of UT in the computer polls, but it all depends on how much? If it's .01, then we need around 41 points of growth in the Harris Poll. This is very doable. It's about half of what we got in the coaches poll today. But if the difference is .02 in the computer polls, we'll need about 89 points, which will be hard to overcome. What might kill us is Nebraska's win over Colorado on Friday and Kansas' win over Missouri yesterday.

true, i forgot about the nebraska win. it's crazy, but as close as this thing is looking, wouldn't it be fucked up if the Rice and Arkansas wins this weekend added just enough points to push Texas ahead? how did Fla. Atlantic do? what time does the damn harris poll come out?

mike leach said last week he was voting OU #1, so there's one 1st place vote accounted for... Stoops is the only Big 12 coach without a vote, so who did mack brown vote for? are coaches allowed to vote their own team #1?

Harris poll is out. Texas 1888 points, OU 1880; not enough. OU goes. 4 pm press conference on ESPN w/ Stoops. Done. Karma's a bitch. I hope to god Florida kicks the ever-loving shit out of Stoop's squad and he goes to 1-5 in BCS bowls. Yes, I'm upset. I'll calm down in a bit. GL.

Mack actually did the ethical thing and voted TX #2....TX didn't have a single 1st place vote. We can be proud of that. Karma man, Karma.

OU wouldn't have a 1 point lead in the Coaches if it weren't for those 2 fraudulent first place votes they received.

Florida got 1 fraudulent first place vote.

Texas got 0 first place votes and rightfully so. This means that Mack Brown did the right thing by not voting his team #1.

Did Bob Stoops and his LOSER of a brother Mike Stoops give OU their first place votes?

Every single non-partisan CFB fan MUST DEMAND to know the answer to this question!

Ethical my ass. This same clown used politics to steal a slot a few years ago. If he could vote his team #1, he has to do so.

Harris poll is out. Texas 1888 points, OU 1880.

Link please? Those numbers don't sound right for Harris.

2598 Harris points for OU last week
2577 Harris points for UT last week

How did each time lose so many Harris points this week?

LINK PLEASE!

votes will be made public. bob stoops does not have a vote. just like in college b-ball, a lot of people put weight on how well a team is playing at the moment. OU and Florida have been playing the best -- arguably. i would not be surprised if spurrier voted florida #1 since florida crushed them and they did not play 'bama...

Argument could certainly be made that Texas is playing as well or better than both the aforementioned teams. ESPECIALLY DEFENSE. Look at the numbers.

the loss to tech coupled with tech getting blasted by ou is killing texas. if ou had barely beaten tech, i don't think it would have mattered a whole lot because people would have said we barley won at home where texas barely lost away.... even though margin of victory was officially eliminated from the system, don't think it doesn't come into play. texas beat osu by 4 in austin and osu actually had the ball at the end, while ou beat osu by 20 at stillwater.... the computers may not factor this, but the humans do.
