maybe they ran out of dollars.... i got $500 and the rest in colones this week..

All times I've picked up Western Union here (maybe 3-4 times) they'd only give me colones. That policy or no?
maybe it is the shop you go to. i have picked up cash more times than colones from wires

Went Friday and picked up $$...I guess they were fucking with me last time.

Isn't Torre Mercedes now Torre Scotiabank? I used to work there, back when the night club was still open across the street. Too bad they never opened the club on the top floor, did they?
So teledollar must be like next to Lubnan. Good music there sometimes.
It was great when BAC, Banco de Costa Rica, and HSBC offered the Money Gram services... you would find plenty of tellers, AND they always paid out dollars. One could even ask for 20s, or whatever break down one wanted most of the time. Being they were major banks, they always had liquidity on hand.
Now it seems it is just TeleDollar, and perhaps that Pelican service someone mentioned.
So besides confirming what others already said, I wanted to share another piece of information which could be useful and valuable to others here: There is a Banco Nacional de Costa Rica branch that is open on Sundays from 8am to 7pm local time. It is found within the EPA Escazu store.
I know its come in very handy for me a few times, so I wanted to share that with the board.
BN is open 1pm-7pm Saturday & Sunday(?) in most (all?) the malls; Multiplaza and Paseo Las Flores anyway.
EPA is cool when there is no line.
