People are overlooking the main reason the Bills lost. It wasn't coaching or officiating or Allen.
It is talent/personnel, they don't have much of it for this level. Especially when their best CB goes out early, even Romo couldn't stop mentioning it because he knew how big and underrated of a blow it was.
Shakir is a nice player, he shouldn't be leading a contending team in targets. Cook is a solid RB, but he isn't a game changer. OL is pretty good but benefits from Allen being who it is blocking for. Defense has some good pieces in Johnson, Milano, Rousseau but no one on the level of a Bosa, Jones, Hutchinson, Donald foundational piece for a contending team.
You know who Allen reminds me of? LeBron on the Cavs from 2008-2010 or Jokic on the Nuggs '20-22, best player on an inferior team.
Hold on a sec...
You could literally rip apart every roster in the NFL as "not good enough", especially after playoff losses which everyone tends to do. Only one team is perfect: the one that lifts the Lombardi Trophy. Every other has warts.
Yes, the Bills don't have the Ravens and Chiefs Pro Bowlers
Yes, Allen doesn't have Chase or Jefferson.
Yes, the refs were a factor as they always are in Chiefs games.
Yes, key injuries made a difference (funny how KC rarely has this problem)
And?
You're talking about the #2 seed in the AFC this year - one of the top seeds consistently year after year. Not a fluke.
So apparently the Bills have all these warts, yet they're missing the target literally by inches. Last year it was a shanked FG and this year another 3 point one-possession nailbiter.
At this level this time of year, it's the little things that win you games. Gearing up your team with the right mindset, preparation, effective tactics... aka coaching. That's the Mahomes secret sauce (and Tom Brady secret sauce) no matter how much anyone wants to pretend otherwise.
McDermott looked tense and nervous all week, like his life would be over if they lost this game. Oh surprise, his QB came out of the gate mirroring that mindset.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs were loose and clowning around at practice...Kelce in shorts and a t-shirt in frigid weather. As Andy Reid says, the Chiefs just keep doing their thing.
No biggie, I've only been saying this for the last 5 years:
Call Belichick.
